Main / Media / News / The Minister of Planning and Economic Development announces the extension of the application period for the National Smart Green Projects initiative until September 18th

06 September 2022

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, announced the extension of the application period for the national initiative for smart green projects until September 18, 2022, which is submitted by all governorates of the Republic, on the initiative's website www.sgg.eg.

This came within the framework of the Egyptian state's leading role in the field of sustainable development, and the importance the state attaches to settling sustainable development goals at the governorate level, and given the great turnout witnessed by the initiative from projects to participate in it at the level of various governorates.

Dr. Hala El-Said explained that the total number of projects submitted so far exceeded 2000 projects at the level of the six categories of the initiative and the level of all governorates of the Republic.
El-Said indicated that the number of large projects submitted to the initiative reached 321 projects, 451 medium projects, 224 small local projects, 567 non-profit projects, 293 projects belonging to start-ups, and 403 development projects related to women, climate change, and sustainability.

El-Said added that the initiative is unprecedented at the global level, as it focuses on implementation and implementation on the ground, explaining that it also focuses on seriously dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals and digital transformation by presenting projects that achieve those goals.

For his part, Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of International Conferences at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and General Coordinator of the initiative, indicated that the initiative targets many areas, especially projects that take into account environmental sustainability standards, which lead to reducing carbon emissions and pollution and preserving natural resources.

It is worth noting that the Prime Minister had issued Resolution No. 2738 of 2022 regarding the launch of a national initiative for smart green projects in the governorates of the Republic, in preparation for Egypt's hosting of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP 27; to emphasize the state's efforts in dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change.
