NCW organizes a meeting to discuss the role of women during the "National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the Governorates of the Republic"

The National Council for Women (NCW) organized a meeting within the "National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the Governorates of the Republic", which comes within the framework of Egypt's preparations to host the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27).
During the meeting, Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women, stressed the importance of today's meeting, in the presence of the council's leaders in the governorates.
Maya Morsi extended her thanks and appreciation to Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, for the distinguished and lasting partnership with the Council. Dr. Maya Morsi also welcomed the decisions of the council's branches in the governorates and thanked them for their great professional efforts in raising awareness during the last period.
Dr. Maya Morsi added that the council's efforts during the coming period will mainly focus on raising awareness of the issue of women, the environment, and climate change, and the importance of the role of women in facing climate change.
Morsi drew attention to Egypt's vision, which was presented during the meetings of the Committee on the Status of Women of the United Nations (CSW), which was held last March.
The main theme of the vision was “the issue of the impact of the repercussions of climate change on women”.
The vision of Egypt included 7 main pillars, including working on methods that take into account the needs of women during the process of adaptation and mitigating the repercussions of climate change and enhancing women’s effectiveness and their effective participation during the stages of environmental governance.
The President of the Council stressed the importance of a "just environmental transition", explaining that financing the climate change process is an international issue and not only in Egypt.
Dr. Maya Morsi also stressed the importance of the role of the decisions of the council’s branches in spreading awareness of the initiative, its conditions, and standards, to transfer it to women in all governorates.
Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of International Conferences at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Chairman of the National Organizing Committee, and General Coordinator of the National Green Projects Initiative indicated that the Prime Minister’s decision to launch the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects came within the framework of preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the Cop27 Climate Summit next November in Sharm Sheikh.
Badr explained that the initiative continues and will be repeated in the coming years, as the current global trend is towards green and smart projects that provide clean energy and preserve the environment.
Badr explained that the initiative aims to spread social awareness about the challenges of climate change and the capabilities of modern technologies and to develop a map of green and smart projects at the governorate level.
For his part, Eng. Khaled Mostafa, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and General Supervisor of the Egypt Award for Governmental Excellence; The initiative aims to ensure the seriousness of dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals and digital transformation.
Mustafa indicated that the initiative is available to everyone, and priority will be given to projects that can be expanded and implemented.
Mustafa explained that the door for submission for the initiative is open until September 7, and the list of winning projects will be announced at the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP 27.
While Eng. Amr Suleiman confirmed that as a member of the council, he sensed the great momentum that already exists in terms of the existence of really great opportunities for multiple projects for women in all governorates, and the idea of compiling these projects within a database at the level of all governorates of the Republic is a real gain for all.
