Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development monitors development needs in the neediest villages of South Sinai

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Office of the Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, conducted a field visit, which included the neediest villages in South Sinai Governorate.
Representatives of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at Ain Shams University participated in the visit, to monitor development needs in the targeted villages in the governorate.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed the government's keenness to strengthen partnership and cooperation with the private sector, civil society, and academic institutions, to benefit from the experiences of all partners in the development process, which aims primarily to improve the quality of services provided to citizens, especially in the neediest areas.Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that the past period witnessed some coordination meetings with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at Ain Shams University and South Sinai Governorate, to coordinate efforts regarding development interventions in the targeted villages.
Helmy stressed the importance of field visits to monitor the actual needs of the residents of the villages, which are integrated with the databases provided by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMS), to identify indicators of the current state of development in the villages, to set an integrated development program for each village.
Helmy stressed the importance of maximizing the benefit of the development interventions carried out by civil society so that they are integrated with the interventions carried out by the state in this regard.
He pointed out that the targeted development interventions include, in addition to providing infrastructure and urban services (sewage, drinking water, electricity...), human development services (schools, health units, youth centers). The delegation of the Ministry of Planning visited 5 villages in South Sinai Governorate, with a population of more than 19,000 people, over three days, which is (the valley affiliated to the city of Tur, Wadi Maktab affiliated to the city of Tur, Ras Masala affiliated to the city of Ras Sidr, and Grendal affiliated to the city of Abu Zenima Wadi Saal, affiliated to Saint Catherine City.
The visit was attended by Muhammad Sharif Al-Hilli, coordinator of the "Dignified Life" initiative at the Ministry of Planning, and Dr. Jihan Abdel Moneim Rajab, Advisor to the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Nahed Yousry, Director of the Social Empowerment Sector, and Farah Mustafa, Program Officer in the Social Empowerment Sector, Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.
