Egypt’s NIGSD joins the Continental Working Group to Facilitate the Application of Effective Governance Principles in Africa

Main / Media / News / Egypt’s NIGSD joins the Continental Working Group to Facilitate the Application of Effective Governance Principles in Africa

17 August 2022

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the Institute, participated in the meeting of the continental working group called by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), to cooperate with it within its continental program to support the implementation of the principles of effective governance in Africa.
During the meeting, Dr. Sherifa Sherif confirmed NIGSD's welcome to participate in the continental working group and work with African research and training organizations to design guidelines to assist workers in African government agencies in implementing the pivotal strategies for implementing the principles of governance.Sherif pointed out that NIGSD will host the fourth edition of the African Women Leaders Program in Cairo next month, and invited interested experts to participate in the program, which built the capacities of more than 300 African women from senior leaders in various African organizations over the past three years. This year, the program will focus on climate change and the climate action agenda in Africa as one of NIGSD's contributions to capacity-building in this important field on the sidelines of Egypt's hosting of the Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022.
For her part, Dr. Hanan Rizk, Director of the African Development Center affiliated with NIGSD, reviewed the main components of the guide that was assigned to the Institute, with an explanation of the methodology used in preparing the guide and the justifications for the need to design it to suit the environment of African organizations and take the external factors affecting the work environment in African countries.

It is worth mentioning that NIGSD participated in the meeting of African experts in Nairobi - Kenya last year and submitted a proposal to prepare a set of guidelines for workers in African countries to facilitate the practical application of the less applied set of effective governance principles.
