Egypt's NIGSD holds a webinar on the Climate Summit in cooperation with UNIDO

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD)- the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - held a webinar entitled "Towards the Climate Summit: Introduction to Climate Action and the Sustainable Development Plan; Egypt's Vision 2030" - remotely - with the participation of Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the Institute.
The webinar was held in cooperation with UNIDO and aims to discuss Egypt's preparations to host COP 27 and create an understanding of key climate change terminology and issues. During the session; Dr. Sherifa Sherif said that this webinar is the first in a series on youth empowerment on climate change issues, which comes in preparation for Egypt's role in hosting the COP 27 climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
Sherif emphasized that work is underway to create awareness about several initiatives, including ambassadors for sustainable development and climate ambassadors.
For his part, Ambassador Hazem Zaki, during his opening speech, indicated Egypt's interest in hosting the COP 27 climate conference on behalf of the African continent, which comes at an important time and a critical stage, as the world is witnessing serious challenges.
Zaki affirmed Egypt's aspiration to prepare an integrated agenda for all areas related to climate change during the conference, and in this context, it will seek with developing countries to reaffirm the importance of providing the necessary funding at the international level to enable it to undertake projects to adapt to the negative effects of climate change.
MP Amira Saber also reviewed the state of climate change and the climate response in Africa, noting that African countries are well aware of the risks of climate change.
