11 August 2022

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced the inclusion of the " Citizen Investment Plan " on the United Nations platform for initiatives to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs Acceleration Actions).                                                         This came in light of the Sustainable Development Unit's coordination to monitor national initiatives that contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals, after its success in listing five Egyptian initiatives in June 2020, namely: the Decent Life Initiative, the Elimination of Slums Initiative, the Prepare for Green Initiative, the Solidarity and Dignity Initiative, and the National Strategy to combat corruption.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed that the inclusion of the " Citizen Investment Plan" on the United Nations platform for initiatives to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals is a great success, confirming the ministry's keenness to achieve the principle of transparency.
The Citizen’s Plan is a document issued annually by the Ministry of Planning that includes detailed information on the features of the country’s sustainable development plan, the most important economic and social indicators for each governorate, public investments directed to each governorate and their sectoral distribution, and the most prominent projects implemented in each sector.

El-Said explained that the Citizen's Plan was included as it contributes to achieving the tenth and sixteenth goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that the "citizen's investment plan" contributes to achieving several goals, including improving the efficiency of public spending, activating community participation, transparency and accountability.

Helmy added that the goals also included the involvement of citizens in all stages of the development process, especially the follow-up of projects that are implemented in each governorate, city, and village, in addition to spreading awareness among citizens of the development plans and programs adopted by the government, as well as spreading the culture of "programs and performance" among the public. citizens.

On the expected impact of the citizen’s plan, Helmy indicated that it is to shed light on the fairness of allocating public investments to all governorates according to a funding formula that focuses mainly on addressing development disparities between governorates, as well as emphasizing that citizens are an important part of the development process.
