Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development clarifies the objectives of the transport sector in the plan for the current FY 22/2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development clarified, in a report issued by it, the objectives and investments of the transport sector in the plan for the current fiscal year 22/2023.


H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said , Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the transport sector plays a major role in the economic and social development of the state.
She added that the transport sector constitutes a mainstay for sustainable growth. 
El-Said explained that the sector's development vision goes beyond just developing mechanisms for transporting passengers and goods to actively participating in consolidating the concept of sustainable development, by providing a transport system that achieves sustainable development goals.

El-Said noted that it is estimated that the total investments targeted for the transport sector will amount to about EGP 307 billion in the year of the plan, compared to EGP 240.7 billion in the previous year.

The report of the Ministry of Planning indicated the development goals of the sector, explaining that the production of the transport sector at current prices during the year 22/2023 is targeted to reach EGP 672.4 billion ,compared to EGP 586.5 billion in the base year (21/2022), with an increase of 14.7%.
The report reviewed the strategic directions of the 22/2023 plan in the transport sector, which is to achieve balance and integration between different means of transport, with a focus on developing the multimodal transport system.
The directions also include, according to the report, the financial and administrative restructuring of affiliated bodies and departments, the advancement of human competencies to improve performance rates and maximizing the return on activity investments.
The report confirmed that the transport sector has achieved tangible achievements during the past few years, which have effectively contributed to developing the transport system and improving the quality of its services, including the increase in the lengths of the main road network by 112% between 2013 and 2020.
