Egypt is seventh in the Arab world and 87th globally in the Sustainable Development Report 2022: Minister of Planning

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that Egypt ranked 7th out of 20 Arab countries, 4th out of 47 African countries, and 7th in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in the Sustainable Development Report 2022.
El-Said pointed out that Egypt ranked 30th out of 163 countries in the global outreach impact index, and that it outperformed in education, research, and development indicators, health, well-being, and demography compared to the performance of countries in the Middle East and North Africa and lower-middle-income countries.
This came during a review by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development; Putting Egypt in the Sustainable Development Report 2022, which is published annually by the University of Cambridge in cooperation with the German (Bertelsmann Stiftung) Foundation, and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), which operates under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the supervision of Professor Jeffrey Sachs, an expert on sustainable development.
The 2022 Sustainable Development Report (2022SDR) reviews data on countries' performance towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and points to areas that require faster progress.
On the evolution of Egypt’s performance in the Sustainable Development Goals Index; Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that Egypt obtained a score of 68.7 in 2022, and thus it was able to maintain its performance in the index; Although the regional average decreased from 67.1 in 2021 to 66.7 in 2022, it ranks 87th out of 163 countries covered by the report.
El-Said also reviewed Egypt's performance at the level of the Arab region during 2022, noting that Egypt ranked 7 out of the 20 Arab countries monitored by the report, and at the level of Africa; It ranked 4 out of 47 African countries, and 7th in the Middle East and North Africa region; Within 16 in the same region.
She explained that Egypt ranked 15th out of 20 countries at the level of emerging markets in 2022.
Dr. Hala El-Said added that the data was available for a sufficient number of indicators, which led to the possibility of measuring Egypt’s performance in all the UN goals in the 2022 report, in addition to the possibility of evaluating the trends in achieving the goals, including the trends of goals 10 “reducing inequalities” and 12. Responsible consumption and production” that was not available in the 2021 report. El-Said indicated that a set of UN goals witnessed an improvement in the direction of their achievement in 2022 compared to 2021, namely goals 1, 5, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 15.Regarding Egypt’s performance in the Global Outreach Impact Index, the report indicated that this indicator measures the positive and negative cross-border effects from one country to another, which affect the ability of countries to achieve sustainable development goals at the level of three dimensions: the environmental and social repercussions embodied in trade, the economic and financial repercussions in addition to the security implications. The report indicated that Egypt ranked 30th out of 163 countries in the global outreach impact index, compared to 36 out of 165 countries in 2021; This reflects the improvement in its score in the index, which reached 98.82 out of 100, and thus the positive repercussions for Egypt rise compared to the negative ones.
The report also referred to Egypt's performance in three of the six transformation cards for the sustainable development goals, which are education, gender, and equality, health and well-being, decarbonization of energy and sustainable industry, sustainability of food, land, water, and oceans, sustainable cities and societies, and the digital revolution for sustainable development. The report noted Egypt's superiority in indicators of education, research, and development, as well as indicators of health, welfare, and demography over the average performance of countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and countries with lower middle income.
