H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Ms. Amina Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of her representation of Egypt at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.


During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said said that the Corona pandemic and the recent geopolitical turmoil had negatively affected some of the important gains made in recent years.
 El-Said explained that the Egyptian government focused, within the framework of these changes, on transformative policies that support the principle of leaving no one behind, development financing, and regional cooperation.


El-Said stressed that for the Egyptian state to achieve Vision 2030; Some challenges must be overcome, including population growth, water scarcity, and addressing funding shortfalls.
El-Said added that the Corona pandemic and the unprecedented changes at the local, regional and international levels were taken into account when updating Egypt's Vision 2030.
 On the "Decent Life" initiative; El-Said explained that this initiative is evidence of political commitment to the guiding principle of the 2030 Agenda, which is “leaving no one behind.”
 El-Said indicated that the President of the Republic launched the initiative in 2019 intending to improve the quality of life in poor villages, especially in Upper Egypt and marginalized rural areas.

Dr. Hala El-Said also pointed to the launch of the National Program for Structural Reforms (NPSR), which aims to strengthen the economy to maintain comprehensive, balanced, and sustainable growth, to diversify the productive structure of the Egyptian economy.
Dr. Hala El-Said stated that the Egyptian government launched the "National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family" under the supervision of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
 El-Said clarified that the axes and interventions of the program aim at economic empowerment of women, strengthening reproductive health and family planning services, raising awareness of family planning through innovative methods, as well as addressing social norms related to family size and violence against women and girls.

El-Said stressed that Egypt's presidency of the COP 27 Conference comes within the framework of stressing the importance of collective action to face the global challenges of climate change.
