During her speech, Dr. Hala El-Said said that the issue of awareness is a basic pillar of any development effort, and is the basis for a strong and cohesive society, noting that addressing the issue of awareness must be from a comprehensive perspective that includes the outset promoting dialogue and participation and providing appropriate mechanisms for that participation.
El-Said explained that the participatory approach and dialogue is the way to enhance awareness, noting the keenness of the Ministry of Planning to involve the citizen in the formulation, implementation, and follow-up of development plans and programs, foremost of which is Egypt's Vision 2030, which was launched and updated through a participatory approach.
El-Said added that the ministry provides many mechanisms and platforms that allow participation in development decision-making, including the launch of the "citizen's plan" for all governorates, and the launch of the "Shareq 2030" application as the first mobile application aimed at raising awareness of the sustainable development goals.
On the most important development initiatives launched by the ministry to enhance development awareness and participation, El-Said referred to the Youth for Development initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, represented by the Supreme Council of Universities and various Egyptian universities, which aims to develop and enrich the Egyptian youth’s awareness of development issues and promote creative thought.
El-Said also pointed to the "Be an Ambassador" initiative in cooperation with the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development - the training arm of the ministry, to enhance participation, develop awareness, and spread the idea of sustainable development among young people. About 700 students graduated from the initiative as a first batch last March.
Dr. Hala El-Said said that the initiatives also include the Climate Ambassadors initiative, which takes place in the context of the increasing importance of climate change issues and the need to raise awareness of spreading supportive behavior to confront this phenomenon and its resulting economic and social repercussions and challenges.
