Egypt’s Minister of Planning calls on young people to focus on green innovations

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, participated today in the activities of the third annual forum for startups, organized by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Rowad 2030 project, in the presence of Ahmed Al-Alfi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greek Campus, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
El-Said said that the forum coincides with the global celebration of small projects, noting that Egypt 2016 submitted a request to the World Council for Small Projects to have a day dedicated to celebrating small projects.
El-Said explained that the main concern of every official in the Egyptian government is the ability to create decent jobs for citizens.
She further said that Egypt enjoys that it has a large proportion of its youth population, which represents a demographic advantage, which always needs to be maximized, emphasizing this advantage and investing in it better.
El-Said added that the whole world is going through exceptional periods, starting with the Covid-19 pandemic, passing through the geopolitical crisis, represented by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, explaining that the world has not gone through such crises since the Great Depression.
During the Covid-19 crisis, El-Said stressed that Egypt is one of the few countries in the world that has taken a great equilibrium trend between the movement of economic activity and preserving the health of citizens, which also contributed to the continuation of the production wheel.
El-Said added that during crises, opportunities appear, explaining that the opportunities that resulted from those crises were represented in the ability to invest in technology and information infrastructure, in addition to focusing on innovations and creations, and paying attention to and investing in start-up companies.
El-Said stressed the importance of cooperation to provide this enabling environment, through training and investment in the human element so that he can think and innovate and have the ability to enter into adventure and creativity, investing in the provision of business incubators at the university level, as new ideas need to be incubated to be feasible.
During her speech, El-Said referred to Egypt's hosting of the Conference of the Parties to Climate Change, Cop27, which gives a great opportunity to prove to the world that Egypt has a large volume of sustainable and green projects that preserve natural resources.
El-Said called for the need to focus on young ideas by coming up with a set of green innovations that take into account the reduction of emissions and the sustainability of natural resources.
