Egypt’s National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, launched recently the activities of the first phase of the "Climate Ambassadors" program, as part of the activities of the "Ambassadors of Sustainable Development (Be an ambassador) initiative."
Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, said that the current climate and environmental crises affect all countries of the world.
Sherif pointed to the importance of reducing these risks by focusing on adaptation to climate change, disaster risk reduction, and proactive measures, including preparedness, response, and recovery from these phenomena.
She stressed the importance of concerted efforts of the three sectors; public, private, and civil society to develop a comprehensive plan for climate action including policies, investments, and initiatives supported by all categories of active citizens who feel the importance of their role and responsibilities to achieve a better and more sustainable future.
Sherif pointed out that the "Climate Ambassadors" program is an advanced program focused on climate change, within the framework of Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 climate summit, where the program will present information and advanced topics on climate change in cooperation with experts from UNIDO, UNICEF, Strathclyde, the University of Dundee and the University of Al muffled
Sherif explained that the first phase of the "Climate Ambassadors" program targets 500 outstanding graduates of the "Ambassadors for Sustainable Development (Be an Ambassador)" initiative, who have been accredited as trainers through this initiative.
Sherif said that the program will be implemented online in three phases, and the first phase includes holding a series of discussions. The first webinar was launched yesterday in the first phase of the initiative, which included the topic of integrating the principles and concepts of climate change in education.
Sherif added that the second phase of the program will witness holding several seminars with a group of Egyptian experts in the field of climate change.
The thirteenth phase will include specialized training programs on climate change and will be held online, noting that the "Climate Ambassadors" program will continue to be implemented until the end of next August.
The first webinar of the program, which took place yesterday, was attended by Lord Murray Elder, President of ALM College (recorded speech), Dr. Alaa Jarrad, Director of Academic Programs, ALM, Dr. Anna Paola Fonseca, Director of the MBA Program, Edinburgh Napier University, and Sabrina Agius, President CEO of GSE Technologies.
