The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviews the Egyptian experience in linking the investment plan to SDGs

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Programs and Performance and Sustainable Development Units, participated in the workshop "Linking budget allocations and sustainable development goals and supporting financial transparency", organized by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with UNICEF and the Global Initiative for Financial Transparency "GIFT" network.
 During the workshop, the Egyptian experience in activating the program and performance plan and the efforts made to link the investment plan with the goals of sustainable development were reviewed.


Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, and Dr. Mona Essam, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit, at a high-level meeting that preceded the workshop, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Finance, UNICEF, and the GIFT Network.
The meeting dealt with the current situation about activating the link between financial allocations and sustainable development goals, program plans, and performance, highlighting the needs of the two ministries for technical support, and agreeing on future steps to produce the best results from the workshop.

For his part, Dr. Jamil Helmy stressed the importance of participating in these workshops to present the Egyptian experience in activating the program and performance plan.


 Helmy pointed out that Egypt has a leading role in this framework, as it is the best way to improve the efficiency of public spending and direct financial allocations in a way that achieves the best benefits for citizens and society.

Dr. Mona Essam also pointed out the importance of linking budget allocations to the sustainable development goals, within the framework of the implementation of the project of the sustainable development goals financing strategy in Egypt (the integrated national framework for financing).

The workshop, which lasted for four days, presented methodologies and tools for developing performance indicators and models, paving the way for the actual implementation of the budget based on programs, as well as providing the basic elements for linking budget allocations to the sustainable development goals, according to the programs and the performance methodology.
