Main / Media / News / NIGSD Executive participates in a panel discussion on digital transformation during the activities of the Google Egypt conference

28 May 2022

Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), participated in the conference held by Google Egypt to announce the results of the report "Google's Economic Impact in Egypt", with a panel discussion entitled "How digital transformation can be fuel economies".

During her speech, Dr. Sherifa Sherif said that investing in digital transformation has always been rewarding, noting the need to implement governance to enhance economic growth.
Sherif noted, however, that it is important to recognize that achieving effective and inclusive economic growth requires strong political institutions and processes to ensure a full-fledged government approach and a coherent environment for collective action.
Sherif explained that digital technologies have advanced more quickly than any innovation in our history and have shown potential to help individuals and businesses confront and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sherif pointed out that digital technologies are an important tool for promoting more inclusive and sustainable growth by improving economic performance, driving innovation, productivity and competition, and enhancing job creation and business continuity.
Sharif emphasized that from a governance perspective; Digital technologies are not only a strategic driver for improving public sector efficiency, but can also support policy effectiveness and create more open, transparent, innovative, participatory, and trustworthy governments.
Sherif indicated that digital transformation was progressing at a global level before the Corona pandemic, as some governments placed digital strategies at the center of their political agendas.
Sherif highlighted Egypt's taking important steps towards digital transformation, transforming existing government services and the societal ecosystem into a fully digital, data-driven ecosystem and delivering public services in a faster and simpler way.

Sherif added that the COVID-19 crisis has led to an increased reliance on digital technologies and exposed digital divides between countries in access to technology and communication.

The Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development continued that inclusive digital transformation is critical to ensuring that digital technologies are equally available, accessible, and adopted.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif indicated that in this regard; The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development launched the “She is a Digital Future” initiative, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the global company Cisco, to bridge the digital gender gap to meet the requirements of digital transformation.

Sherif indicated that 2,000 women have been trained so far, and the goal is to complete the training of 8,000 women by the end of 2022.
