22 May 2022

Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development chaired the meeting held to discuss the results achieved during the period 2021 within the results of the comprehensive economic development "Pillar of Prosperity", and the joint and proposed action plan for 2022 during the United Nations framework for development, with the participation of Dr. Basil Al-Khatib, Regional Director The United Nations Industrial Development Organization "UNIDO".

Dr. Ahmed Kamali explained that the participation of United Nations organizations supports the Egyptian government in achieving Egypt's 2030 agenda and vision.

He stressed Egypt's keenness to achieve sustainable development and not leave anyone behind, through many initiatives that Egypt seeks to implement, such as the initiative for a decent life, the national project for the development of the Egyptian family, and many initiatives that are consistent with the UN goals.

Kamali added that the unbearable circumstances the world is facing from the spread of the pandemic, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian war, put regimes in all countries of the world in a critical position as a result of the succession of crises.

Kamali also stressed the importance of holding several meetings to support integration and coordination between the Egyptian government and United Nations organizations to support Egypt's Vision 2030 and the relevant agencies for sustainable development.

During the meeting, Kamali pointed out the importance of providing more tangible KPIs in terms of what is being achieved.

Kamali explained that there are many key performance indicators such as those related to the beneficiaries of a project, with the need to focus on extending the impact of performance indicators.

Kamali also pointed out the importance of having more effective key performance indicators to know the effectiveness of projects supported by the United Nations and its various organizations.

Kamali also pointed to the need to focus on the green growth component, referring to the role of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development concerning the transition towards a green economy, and the initiative to calculate green GDP.

Kamali continued, stressing the importance of the participation of all Egyptian governmental institutions and bodies in the work, to achieve inclusiveness and a comprehensive view of all elements of work, with the necessity of the participation of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in the data audit.

Kamali stressed the importance of participatory work, pointing out that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is working to update Egypt's Vision 2030, taking into account the active participation of all government agencies, the private sector, and civil society.

For his part, Dr. Basil Al-Khatib reviewed a report on what was achieved in 2021 and the action plan for 2022, explaining that work is underway regarding the first result related to comprehensive economic development, the "prosperity pillar" to achieve the government's vision of achieving sustainable development goals and developing programs concerning economic reforms and policies.

Al-Khatib explained that work on the report began at the end of 2017 and 2018 when available statistics were used.

He stressed that the work of the next session will depend on collecting the information on the new base plans and updating the statistics and numbers accordingly.
