Dr. Hala El-Said emphasized that the 2023/22 plan is keen to continue activating the development performance of the agricultural sector, enhancing its flexibility in meeting the food needs of citizens and maximizing the benefit from the export opportunities provided by the current crises to access foreign markets. This is by moving on two axes. The first is to diversify the origins instead of relying on a limited number of them and expand the conclusion of future contracts to ensure price stability and at the same time develop self-productive capacities through horizontal and vertical expansion in agriculture to raise the rates of self-sufficiency in major crops, such as wheat Beans, maize, lentils, vegetable oils, and red meat.
The second axis is represented by the expansion of the export activity of crops with a productive surplus, especially vegetables and fruits.
Concerning the first axis, El-Said explained that the plan for the year 22/2023 aims at the following: Increasing the agricultural area by about half a million acres within the scope of horizontal expansion projects.
