FY 2022/2023 Sustainable Development Plan aims to strengthen the international competitiveness of the Egyptian economy: Planning Minister

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the plan for the next fiscal year 2022/2023 adopts three main objectives, each of which is based on several strategic directions. This came during a review of the main features of the sustainable development plan for the coming year 2022-2023, before the House of Representatives for the coming year 2022/23.
El-Said added that those three goals included the goal of building the Egyptian person and improving the quality of life of the citizen, through achieving integrated rural development within the framework of a decent life initiative.
The goals also included the phased implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system, the technological development of the education system, the upgrading of basic services for citizens, the economic empowerment of gender, and the provision of equal opportunities for all.
El-Said added that the second goal was to activate the national structural reform program, which focuses on developing the three priority sectors, including the agricultural sector, through developing productive capacities to raise self-sufficiency rates in basic crops.
The national structural reform program also focuses on the industrial sector by deepening local manufacturing to increase the added value within the framework of the state’s drive to localize the industry, in addition to the communications and information technology sector through the development of electronic industries and the promotion of digital transformation.
The third goal, El-Said explained that it is to strengthen the international competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, by strengthening the pillars of the knowledge economy, the digital economy, and moving towards a green economy.
El-Said added that the plan focused on highlighting the drivers of growth, and recent trends, the importance of which has been emphasized by the consequences of the continuing pandemic of the Coronavirus, and the current geopolitical events.
El-Said pointed to the most prominent trends adopted by the plan, which include the strategic direction toward the development of Egyptian villages, and the management of their needs for infrastructure and services.
The plan also seeks to create ways to improve income and a decent standard of living for rural people within the framework of a decent life initiative, as well as the effective implementation of presidential initiatives to improve the health and quality of life of the Egyptian citizen and improve the living conditions of the Egyptian family.
El-Said added that the most prominent directions of the 2022/2023 plan also included careful follow-up of the executive programs of the Egyptian Family Development Plan, which is based on controlling population growth and improving the characteristics of the population within the framework of the state's efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens, increasing reliance on local resources.
El-Said continued the discussion about the most prominent directions of the next fiscal year’s plan, noting the adoption of the export-oriented strategy by exploiting the promising export potential and opportunities in the fields of agriculture, industry, tourism, real estate, service, and financial activities while working on rationalizing import operations by expanding the substitution of the product and increasing the proportion of local imports. The most prominent directions of the next fiscal year plan also include stimulating the participation of the private sector in development efforts by providing more investment opportunities and providing facilities to improve the business environment and reduce transaction costs.
This is in addition to encouraging partnership projects with the government sector within the framework of the partnership system between the public and private sectors, and directing the state to support the private sector and provide the necessary environment for it to play its role in developing the economy, and the government's adoption of the state ownership document.
El-Said explained that the focus on environmental improvement initiatives and green economy projects, and the strict application of environmental sustainability standards to all projects, were among the most prominent directions of the plan, in addition to intensifying efforts directed at providing means of financial support for low-income social groups and families with families.
