The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held - via video conference - the second training day for young people participating in the "Youth for Development" initiative launched by the Ministry in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (the Supreme Council of Universities).

Dr. Hala El-Said confirmed that the "Youth for Development" initiative is a youth initiative that aims to provide and create areas for youth to be involved in issues of public affairs and to open continuous channels of communication with them.

 This is within the framework of the themes addressed in the Egyptian Human Development Report 2021, which are: education, health, adequate housing, economic reform, social protection, environmental sustainability, the new renaissance of Egyptian women, and governance.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Alaa, coordinator of the initiative, human rights unit official, and deputy director of the international cooperation office in the ministry, indicated that the initiative consists of two main axes, the first one aims to introduce university youth to human development.

It aims to prepare a generation of experts, practitioners, and trainers aware of human development issues and goals and how to link them to the Egyptian state's strategy, programs and projects.

The training day opened; with Dr. Mohamed Alaa, coordinator of the initiative, and today included a set of topics presented by some experts via video conference, where the lecturer Tarek Fahmy discussed programs specialized in projects and entrepreneurship: business model and market research.

 Dr. Heba Zaki, Executive Director of the Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University; The incubator’s success stories and reviewed how and conditions for accepting projects in it.

Sylvain Merlin, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); The importance of evidence-based policymaking and people-centered development, with a focus on the Human Development Report 2021.

 Dr. Howaida Adly Roman, Professor at the National Center for Social and Criminological Research, addressed the issue of; Talking about social protection: Towards a more inclusive and empowering social contract in Egypt.


 Dr. Ibrahim Abdel-Galil, an international expert in the environment and former head of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, reviewed; Environmental sustainability: towards achieving a sustainable environment and addressing the risks of climate change.
