This award also comes in line with the national strategy for women’s empowerment, and in light of the implementation of the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030, to support the state’s efforts to spread and deepen the culture of excellence and institutional development in the country’s various sectors.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the launch of the Equal Opportunities and Empowerment of Women Award comes in appreciation of the role of women in society and to increase the chances of their participation in government jobs.
El-Said confirmed that this award is one of the fruits of the efforts made to develop the capabilities of women in government agencies, noting that the percentage of female winners of the Egypt Award for Government Excellence in its various categories amounted to about 30% of the winners.
Dr. Hala El-Said explained that 3 main pillars were approved for the Equal Opportunities and Empowerment of Women Award, the first of which is investing in human capital through capacity building and development.
The second pillar is the institutional enablers, which include raising awareness about women's empowerment and the importance of digital transformation, and achieving a positive and innovative work environment.
The third pillar is sustainability, in terms of the continuity of institutions that support women's empowerment to change the philosophy of government work and raise the efficiency of the state's administrative apparatus.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development referred to the continuous efforts made by the state to reduce the gender gap.
El-Said emphasized that empowering Egyptian women is a priority for the state, which was evident through many legislative and institutional measures that support women's empowerment and the political leadership's keenness on this.
El-Said added that all the efforts made by the various state institutions to promote the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women have effectively contributed to the improvement of Egypt's ranking in the international indicators concerned with women.
Egypt’s ranking improved in the Gender Gap Index to rank 129 out of 153 countries included in the 2021 World Economic Forum report, compared to 134 in 2020.
Egypt's rank also improved in the sub-index of women's political empowerment in the gender gap index, as it ranked 79th in 2021, compared to ranking 103 in 2020.
