19 April 2022

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, received recently a delegation from the British Egyptian Business Association, which is preparing to travel to London on a working assignment titled "The Road to COP 27: Bridging the Gap between Implementation and Funding".

During the meeting, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development reviewed the most important steps taken by the Egyptian government in preparation for hosting COP 27, in addition to the government's focus on adopting environmentally friendly projects and initiatives and achieving the goals promoted by COP 27.

The Minister of Planning reviewed many green projects that were funded during the current fiscal year, which amounted to more than 30% of the state's total investment plan.
El-Said indicated that the percentage of these projects is targeted to reach 50% in the fiscal year 2024/2025, including transport projects, renewable energy generation, and projects in the health, education, and housing sectors.
El-Said referred to the environmental sustainability criteria for private sector projects that were developed in cooperation with several agencies, including the Ministry of Environment and the Alexandria Businessmen Association.
El-Said also clarified the most important steps taken by the government to deepen the partnership with the private sector, as it is a key partner in the development and a source for creating job opportunities and improving the conditions of more citizens.
El-Said stressed the need to review opportunities, especially in the fields of green economy and new and renewable energy.
El-Said stressed that the state has invested over the past years in building a strong infrastructure capable of attracting investments and providing opportunities for success for any real investor.
She stressed to the delegation's members the necessity of conveying the true picture of investment opportunities in Egypt, contributing to attracting more direct investments, and striving with the government to attract advanced technology industries and work on localizing these industries.

For his part, Khaled Nassir, President of the British Egyptian Business Association, said that the mission of the delegation participating in the meetings to be held in London is to promote Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 Climate Summit and to attract distinguished experts, thinkers, and businessmen to attend.

The delegation also seeks to market the opportunities available to invest in Egypt in sectors related to the green economy, sustainable development, and renewable energy.
