Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD)who is also acting as a member of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) participated recently in the 21st session of the Committee.

The session was titled "Building back better in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while promoting the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".
Dr. Sherifa Sharif explained that she participated with many experts in discussing two working papers; The first, entitled "Transforming Institutions and Governance to Build for a Better Future towards 2030" discusses progress made, lessons learned, challenges concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 14 and 15.
Sherifa indicated that the (first) paper was intended to provide a basis for the discussions of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration on its substantive contributions to the thematic review of the 2022 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development and its in-depth review of goals 4, 5, 14, 15 and 17 of the sustainable development goals.
Sherifa explained that the second paper was entitled "Application of Effective Governance Principles for Sustainable Development at the Subnational Level", which included a summary of the importance of the 11 principles of effective governance for sustainable development at the subnational level, and an assessment of some of the difficulties and opportunities in their implementation.
Dr. Sherifa Sharif was appointed last year as a member of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, among 24 experts representing several different countries for four years.
Sherifa is the first Egyptian woman appointed to this committee, which meets in April of each year to discuss management and governance issues.
 The Committee shall submit its recommendations to the Secretary-General of the United Nations for circulation to the Member States for implementation.
