South Sinai receives EGP 4.1 bn for 153 development projects in FY 2021/22: Planning Minister

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report on the features of the Citizen’s Investment Plan for the governorate of South Sinai for the fiscal year 21/2022, as part of the continuation of the announcement of the citizen’s plan in all governorates of the Republic for the third year in a row.The issuance of the reports aims to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (21/2022), and its role in achieving “Egypt Vision 2030.”Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that recent years have witnessed an intensification of efforts to localize sustainable development goals in the governorates to maximize the comparative advantages and set an indicator to determine the comparative and competitive advantage of each governorate. El-Said stressed that the plan was keen to follow a participatory approach in formulating, implementing, and following up all local development plans and programs to encourage positive participation by the citizen, which comes in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
El-Said pointed out that the number of development projects in the citizen's investment plan for the governorate of South Sinai reaches 153 projects, with a value of directed public investments estimated at EGP 4.1 billion.
El-Said pointed to the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments; where EGP 1.4 billion is directed to housing and slum development, EGP 453.8 million to agriculture, EGP 593.3 million to health, EGP 370 million to local development, EGP 500 million to higher education and scientific research, and EGP 820.1 million to other sectors.
The report of the Ministry of Planning indicated the most important projects in each sector; The most important projects field of higher education were the establishment of Salman bin Abdulaziz University and the establishment of a building for the Faculty of Commerce, Arts, Education, and Science, Suez University in Abu Rudeis.In the field of health; The completion of the construction of the new Al-Tur General Hospital, the completion of development of hospitals in Ras Sidr, Saint Catherine, and Taba, and the establishment of Abu Redis General Hospital were among the most important projects.
In the field of housing services, the most important projects were the completion of the construction of 9 development clusters, the Sharm El-Sheikh desalination plant, and the development of slum areas in the governorate, in addition to the Abu Redis and Saint Catherine desalination plant, and the Ras Sidr city desalination plant. This is in addition to directing about 830 million pounds for drinking water and sanitation services, and EGP 73 million for the construction and paving of roads.
The ministry’s report mentioned the most important projects in the plan of 21/2022 in South Sinai Governorate in the field of agriculture, which were the completion of the establishment of 15 agricultural clusters, the completion of the establishment of a research station, and the dissemination of modern technologies for greenhouse farmers and the production of sugar beet seeds under Egyptian conditions.
The most important projects in the field of local development in the governorate also included completing the solid waste system, developing the environmental system and cleaning system, developing and raising the efficiency of the security system, developing and raising the efficiency of local units, and developing and raising the efficiency of the lighting system.
This is in addition to allocating EGP 65.9 million to improve the environment and paving local roads in the governorate with about EGP 83.4 million.
