17 March 2022

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched the fourth issue of the follow-up report on program budgets and performance at the sectoral level, which covers the period from (18/2019) to (20/2021).
The issue reviews all development programs in various sectors and links them to sustainable development goals. It also reviews the basic features of the programs implemented by the Ministry of Transport and its subsidiaries, the detailed data of the financial appropriations directed to the implementation of those programs, and the most important performance indicators at the level of final outputs.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed that the transport sector occupies special importance within the scope of the national projects adopted by the state to support the pillars of the country's infrastructure, as transport networks are the arteries of economic life, on which economic and social development plans and programs are built.Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that the follow-up reports on program and performance budgets come within the framework of the continuous efforts to activate the system of programs and performance and to spread the culture of programs and performance among citizens and in various government agencies. The report covers projects that have been fully completed during the past three years. On the geographical distribution of the implemented projects, the report indicated that Cairo leads the rest of the governorates in terms of project costs, followed by Qalyubia, Suez, Alexandria, Damietta, Qena, Aswan, Minya, Red Sea, and Dakahlia. The governorates of Upper Egypt accounted for more than 20% of the number of completed projects, as well as joint projects between more than one governorate that serve some governorates of Upper Egypt, which represent 14% of the total projects and 39% of the project cost.

Within the framework of the state's efforts to develop the maritime transport sector and make Egypt a global center for trade and logistics, the report indicated that new berths with a length of 34 km were established, and the movement of ships reached about 39,000 ships, and the volume of traded goods reached 473 million tons. In the river transport sector, 12 million m3 of water was purified from the Nile River, which led to an increase in the number of river trips to reach 14.300 trips to transport goods. The report reviewed the most important projects implemented for the development of roads and bridges, including the construction and development of 12.5 thousand km of roads, the most important of which is the Regional Ring Road with a length of 400 km, the Middle Ring Road with a length of 156 km, and the Galala Plateau Road and its connections with a length of 117 km.Concerning the subway and the development of railway services, the report stated that 11.5 km and 10 stations were added to the metro network, which contributed to an increase in the number of trips to reach 1.6 million trips, as well as the development of 212 automatic control system crossings within three years. The report indicated that the Ministry of Transport's programs contributed to accelerating the achievement of the relevant UN sustainable development goals, including the ninth goal on the industry, innovation, and infrastructure, goal 11 sustainable cities and local communities, and goal 13: taking urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects.
