The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development signed a new cooperation agreement with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development to support the launch of the “Egypt Impact Lab.”
Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that this agreement is not the first with the Sawiris Foundation for Development, stressing the continuation of cooperation with the Foundation in targeted projects.
Kamali explained that the "Egyptian Impact Measurement Laboratory" aims to overcome development challenges in Egypt by using rigorous scientific evidence on successful ways to improve development results, adding that this is done through the development of targeting mechanisms and the optimal design of the program using scientific evidence.
Kamali added that among the objectives of the lab are to support decision-makers in facing complex and interrelated challenges due to resource constraints, institutional processes that leave little room for innovation, and a lack of evidence about effective programs or policies to guide decision-making.
For her part, Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), said that the agreement comes with total funding of approximately EGP 23.5 million, over three years.
Kamali pointed out that under the agreement, work will be carried out in cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the "Egypt Impact Lab", and the Abdul Latif Jameel Lab to Combat Poverty in the Middle East and North Africa at the American University in Cairo (AUC).
As Engineer Nora Selim, CEO of the Foundation, said, "We support the launch of the Egyptian Impact Measurement Laboratory because it aligns with the Foundation's goals and priorities, its commitment to enlightened policy and focuses on social protection.
