The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development makes the Voluntary National Review (VNR) Report for Egypt 2021 available on its website
10 March 2022
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced that the third voluntary national review report for Egypt 2021, which was presented at the United Nations High-Level International Political Forum on Sustainable Development last July, is available on its website in both Arabic and English.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that Egypt's third voluntary national report came within the framework of its comprehensive strategy for sustainable development: Egypt's Vision 2030.
El-Said indicated Egypt's keenness to update its vision, given the need to confront some challenges, which included water scarcity, population increase, as well as global and regional geopolitical developments, and to absorb the repercussions of the Covid-19 virus.
She added that the modernization process took place in a participatory framework with all development partners and in line with Africa's Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
El-Said asserted that the voluntary report is a national report and not a government report.
This is the guiding principle that was based on during the process of preparing this report.
El-Said pointed out that the Egyptian government held a series of virtual workshops with government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and development partners to prepare the report.
She confirmed that Egypt's third National Voluntary Report (VNR) covers all 17 sustainable development goals, and includes challenges and gaps, as well as achievements and success factors.
For her part, Dr. Mona Essam, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, explained that the third national voluntary report focused on three main points, namely, the localization of sustainable development goals in the governorates, the challenges of preparing the report, and the most prominent results it concluded.
El-Said indicated that the focus has been on the state's approach to localizing development and the many efforts it is making to ensure that no one is left behind, the most prominent of which are the reports on the localization of sustainable development goals in the governorates.
