Main / Media / News / Egypt’s NIGSD concludes the activities of 3rd edition of the training program “Governance and Sustainable Development and their impact on the performance and objectives of the institution” for local employees in Egypt and some African countries

09 March 2022

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - concluded its training program "Governance and sustainable development and their impact on the performance and objectives of the institution", which was held by the Training Network for Management Institutes in Africa "Tanmia" remotely in cooperation with the German Hans Seidel Foundation for 5 continuous days. The program was held for some trainees from different governorates of Egypt (Cairo, Giza, Menoufia, Sohag, Ismailia, Qena, Damietta, and Suez), the State of Zimbabwe, and some people with hearing disabilities.Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, explained that the program comes within the framework of Egyptian efforts to build African cadres to possess the capabilities necessary to achieve the ambitions and agenda of the African continent in 2063. The program aims to introduce the concept of sustainable development and its objectives, and the Africa Agenda 2063, by identifying the concept of strategic planning and management by objectives, the relationship of sustainable development to achieving the objectives of institutions and introducing the concept of governance, its objectives and principles, and its role in improving performance within government agencies and institutions.

The closing session was moderated by Dr. Hanan Rizk, Director of the African Development Center and Head of the Training Network for Management Institutes in Africa (Tanmia). Rizk indicated that the training, in its third edition, targeted workers in Egyptian government agencies from various governorates, in addition to workers in localities in African countries, and some people with hearing disabilities. Rizk confirmed that the Egyptian-African presence in the training program enriched the daily discussion during the training and helped to exchange experiences concerning national projects that serve the development agendas of each of the participating countries and link them to the ambitions and goals of Africa's Agenda 2063, in various sectors. After the end of the training program, the trainees indicated that the training program had benefited them in their field of work, especially concerning sustainable development, and that the program provided them with actual and practical application with their jobs. The program also benefited in linking the sustainable development agenda and its objectives with the current work environment. The trainees also indicated that the terms of sustainable development are not resonant terms for political and media consumption, but rather that every employee should know and be familiar with.It is noteworthy that the program is held in both Arabic and English, and targets government employees and persons with hearing disabilities of both sexes, whose ages range between 25 and 45 years, and who work in various administrative positions in local units.
