Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met recently with Eng. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, via video conference, to discuss the investment budget of the Ministry of Communications for the next fiscal year 2022/2023.
 The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, M. Raafat Hendy, Deputy Minister of Communications, Dr. Fathy Saqr, Economic Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for the Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, and Mr. Mohamed Farid, Assistant Minister for National Projects.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, pointed to the economic importance of the communications and information technology sector, stressing the state's belief in the main role that the sector plays in accelerating the wheel of sustainable growth, with the means it provides of knowledge and modern information that stimulate investment, production and employment decisions.
El-Said added that the ICT strategy contributes to supporting the achievement of Egypt's Vision 2030 goals in building a digital Egypt, by developing ICT infrastructure, enhancing digital and financial inclusion, supporting capacity building, encouraging innovation, and ensuring information security.
 El-Said added that the "Digital Egypt" vision is the cornerstone for transforming Egypt into a digital society.
The Minister of Planning affirmed that investment in the telecommunications sector is in line with the objectives of the national structural reforms program launched by the Egyptian government last April and aims to maximize the value of the real economy sectors.

 El-Said indicated that the telecommunications sector witnessed significant growth during the pandemic period in Egypt and the world.

El-Said explained that the growth rate of the output of the communications and information technology sector at constant prices during the first half of the current fiscal year 2021/2022 amounted to about 16.5%, continuing that some sectors took priority during the fiscal year, referring to the communications, health and education sectors.
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Amr Talaat reviewed the sector's performance indicators and the ministry's tasks in supporting efforts to develop the national economy, and the current position of the investment plan for the current fiscal year, 2021/2022.


 Talaat also reviewed the approved comparison of previous years, as well as the proposed plan for the next year 2022/2023.
Talaat pointed to the influential role of the communications and information technology sector during the previous years, especially during the last three years and the period of the Corona pandemic, where the sector witnessed great growth, in addition to the sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product, as it rose to its highest value during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, in addition to the rise in companies Communication and export.
Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, clarified that the various elements of the output from investment, export, production, and others will be included in a protocol that will be signed soon with the Ministry of Communications to determine accurate data on the various elements of output.
