The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched the third issue of the follow-up report on program budgets and performance at the sectoral level, which covers the period from (18/2019) to (20/2021), reviews all development programs in various sectors, and links them to sustainable development goals.
The third issue of the report reviews the basic features of the programs implemented by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and its affiliated entities, the detailed data of the financial appropriations directed to the implementation of the programs, the most important performance indicators at the level of final outputs, as well as the strategic and developmental impact of each program, and the progress made in achieving the relevant sustainable development goals.

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development said that 431 development projects were completely completed during the past three years, at a total cost of 131.5 billion pounds.

 El-Said pointed to the geographical distribution of the implemented projects, as the Assiut governorate topped the rest of the governorates in terms of the cost of projects, followed by the Red Sea, then Cairo, Giza, Matrouh, Damietta, Sohag, and Aswan.

El-Said indicated that Upper Egypt governorates accounted for 31% of the total cost of implemented projects and 34% of the number of completed projects.
The projects that have been completed during the past three years are the construction of a 650 MW West Cairo steam power plant, a 650 MW Assiut (Al Walidiya) steam power plant, and a 1,950 MW South Helwan steam power plant, and converting the West Assiut gas station to work as a cycle.
 The West Damietta 2 gas power plant was converted to operate as a combined cycle by adding 250 megawatts, bringing the total capacity to 750 megawatts, as well as converting the 6th of October gas station to work as a combined cycle by adding 340 megawatts and establishing two photovoltaic cell plants in Benban and Kom Ombo in Aswan, and a wind station in the Gulf of Suez in cooperation with the private sector.

The report indicated that within the framework of the state's efforts to develop traditional and renewable energy sources, 4,090 thermal generation capacities and 2,121 megawatts of renewable energy were added, bringing the share of renewable energy from the total generated energy to 11.5%, as 630 megawatts of wind energy were added, through a power plant. Winds (Jabal Al-Zayt 3,2,1) with a total capacity of 380 megawatts, in cooperation with international bodies.
