The state provides all possibilities to improve the exploitation of water resources: Says Hala El-Said

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, held a meeting via video conference technology, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, to discuss the proposal for the investment plan of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation during the fiscal year 2023/2022.The meeting was attended by Dr. Fathi Saqr, Economic Adviser to the Minister of Planning, Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, Prof. Mohamed Farid, Assistant Minister of Planning for National Projects, Dr. Eman Sayed, Head of Planning Sector at the Ministry of Irrigation, Eng. Mohamed Omar Makram, Deputy Minister of Irrigation for Major Projects. During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said confirmed that Egypt has long realized the inevitability of sound management of water resources, so it has embarked on implementing an ambitious agenda for the integrated management of water resources to achieve the sixth goal of the sustainable development goals and other goals and objectives related to water.The Minister of Planning and Economic Development added that there is an interest in providing all the necessary resources for the Ministry of Irrigation and its development projects to support agricultural projects and the Egyptian farmer, as well as investors in the agricultural sector, in addition to the Egyptian state's keenness to implement projects that ensure the highest levels of utilization of water resources.El-Said indicated that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched the first issue of the follow-up report on program budgets and performance at the sectoral level, last month, which covers the period from (2018/2019) to (2020/2021), reviews all development programs in various sectors, and links them to sustainable development goals.
This report indicated that 12 sub-programs were implemented through 7 agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, at a total cost of EGP 48.5 billion (the sixth section of which concerns 55%), which resulted in the completion of the implementation of 735 development projects, at a total cost of EGP 11.4 billion.For his part, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty reviewed the most important achievements of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the investment plan for the current fiscal year, where 4,318 km of canals have been rehabilitated since the start of work on the project until February 12, 2022.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the details of the targeted projects in the General Office of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation during the fiscal year 2023/2022, which are the project to complete the national infrastructure for the development of North Sinai, the project to complete the Sheikh Zayed Canal in the South Valley (Toshka), projects to develop the sources of the Nile River Basin.
The Ministers of Planning and Irrigation also discussed projects to protect the beaches of Alexandria and the need to implement many interventions to protect beaches, deal with climate changes, and ensure the preservation of Egyptian beaches, especially with Egypt hosting the COP 27 conference in Sharm El Sheikh next November.
