Believing that achieving the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030 makes collective work among all concerned parties a necessity that cannot be overlooked and a mechanism that must be maximized, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched the “Partnerships for Development” platform. This platform is designed to serve as a channel of communication between the government, the private sector and civil society, in order to achieve more concerted and coordinated efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals in Egypt in all its governorates.
The platform aims to effectively monitor and document all development efforts at the national and local levels, in addition to involving the concerned parties and development partners in the decision-making process and creating a supportive environment that maximizes the results of the contributions of development partners and aims to provide support to make the efforts made more effective.
This platform was initiated to ensure effective documentation of the consultations held with the stakeholders during the preparation process of Egypt’s third Voluntary National Review (2021), as well as include the stakeholders’ inputs to strengthen the analysis of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Egypt. This step was perceived particularly important during the critical situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The form was originally designed to capture initiatives implemented on-ground by the different stakeholders, their inter-linkages with different SDGs, as well as outcomes and challenges faced. Subsequently, the idea developed into a more structured, digital, multi-stakeholder engagement mechanism, leading to this interactive online platform through the official MPED website, where all stakeholders can submit their contributions towards achieving the SDGs in Egypt. This mechanism will continue to be used for future involvement of the stakeholders in the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda, beyond the VNR preparations.
The form is divided into two parts that complement each other; the
Initiatives form
and the
Enabling Environment
form. On one hand, the Initiatives form aims to capture any initiatives, projects, events, studies, reports or any other activity implemented by the entity, that enhance the achievement and implementation of sustainable development in Egypt. On the other hand, the Enabling Environment form aims to capture the entity’s reflections on any policies, regulations, laws, legislations, or government initiatives, that provide an enabling environment supporting this sector’s activities and efforts in the achievement of sustainable development in Egypt.
