Published as a joint policy note between IFPRI and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, this report studies the impacts of COVID-19 on Egypt’s economic sectors, jobs, and households using a SAM multiplier model. The report draws conclusions on sector specific growth rates, employment levels, and loss of household incomes in rural and urban areas during Q4 and the full fiscal year of 2019/2020.

From reopening to recovery: Alternative pathways and impacts on sectors
In continuation of the first joint policy note produced by IFPRI and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, this policy note estimates the impact of the phasing out of the COVID-19 related measures and of alternative recovery scenarios for the period July to December 2020 using a social accounting matrix (SAM)-based multiplier model. This is done under a number of different scenarios of easing the restrictions (rapid, gradual, or slow), as well as considering the presence or absence of government support through a large-scale public investment program.
