Voluntary Local Reviews
Voluntary Local Reviews
In light of Egypt’s continuous efforts to localize the sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the local level, three Egyptian governorates (Fayoum, Port Said, and Beheira) - within the initial phase of governorates - launched their Voluntary Local Reviews with the support of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which were presented at the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the United Nations in New York, in July 2023.
The voluntary local review is a tool that allows Egyptian governorates to monitor and evaluate their achievement of the SDGs at the governorate level, using an evidence-based methodology, to identify available opportunities as well as challenges on their path towards achieving sustainable development. Thus, it enables governorates to create their local development plans in an integrated manner taking into consideration all aspects of sustainable development, based on the most recent data available. Furthermore, the process of preparing the voluntary local reviews provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable development and build capacities at the local level with regard to data collection and its analysis in an efficient way.
